Our goals are:
  • To provide a competitive and challenging race program that emphasizes fundamentals, fun, teamwork, sportsmanship, camaraderie and discipline.
  • Maintain an affordable program that involves young athletes and their families
  • Provide an evaluation process that encourages our athletes to advance as far as possible
  • Provide a fundamental and progressive program that integrates the philosophies of the US Ski and Snowboard Association.

Due to the high demand for these programs and our desire to maintain appropriate coach to student ratios, please register early! Membership is limited!

Ski Racing Programs:

Developmental program
The goal of the developmental program is to introduce athletes ages 6-12 to the basic fundamentals of alpine and/or snowboard competition for first time racers who know the basics of skiing or snowboarding and would like to learn about alpine racing in a controlled, non- intimidating environment. All athletes should be able to put skis/snowboard on/off, load/unload the chairlift, make linked turns, ski under control and come to a controlled stop.
The program will end with a fun race on the last Saturday. MSST staff encourages all developmental racers to consider racing in the Phil Holecek or Paul Gianera Memorial races in Mt. Shasta and the Kaiser Cup at Mt. Ashland. See the calendar page for a complete schedule.

Freeride programs

Riders and skiers who join the freeride team will get an all-mountain experience. In the freeride aspect, coach Dustin Lockett takes athletes all over the Ski Park where they learn how to have the most fun using a variety of terrain and obstacles. In the terrain park, with coach Ty Parks, they'll learn to use boxes, rails and jumps that suit the participant's ability and age. The freeride coaches separate athletes into groups based on age and skill level, with a development program and a regional program that steps it up a notch. A small number of freeride athletes have traveled to the Tahoe Basin for competitions there.
The goal of the development program is to start young skiers and riders with basic skills, such as linking turns down the slope, then add basic tricks on small jumps and slide boxes. Development athletes generally train in the small terrain park on Silvertip, accessed by the Marmot chairlift. Instructors will also cover how to fall safely, and safe, responsible behavior. All athletes should be able to safely load the chairlift and make their way down groomed runs.
The Developmental program runs January 12th to Feb 17th, Saturdays from 9:30am-2:30pm.
Cost for the development program is $200 prior to Nov 30th.

The Regional program takes it to the next level, encouraging athletes to ride and ski faster in all conditions and to aggressively use the terrain. They will hit bigger boxes and rails, generally in the Revolution terrain park off Coyote. Coaches will discuss freestyle knowledge and more technical skills, as well as competition preparation. All athletes are encouraged to participate in the Ski Park's three terrain park events: Slopestyle, Jan 13th; Half Pipe Comp, Feb 9th and the Rail Jam, March 21st.
The regional program runs Dec 22nd to March 22nd, Saturdays from 9:30am-2:30pm.
Cost for the regional program is $375 prior to Nov 30th.
Thursday night training may be available for an additional cost. We will have more info as the season approches.

Travel to competitions in the Tahoe area will be discussed between coaches, athletes and their parents. Traveling athletes will incur additional costs.
